Books on the Monad

When studying the Monad from multiple perspectives, it helps to divide the literature into traditions. The word Monad has meant different things in different eras, from ancient Greek philosophy to Gnosticism, Neoplatonism, Kabbalah, mathematics, and even modern psychology.

Essential Foundations

1. The Apocryphon of John
   The foundational Gnostic text describing the Monad as the invisible, ineffable source beyond all existence.
2. The Gospel of Truth
   A poetic meditation on the relationship between humanity and the unknowable Father.
3. The Gospel of Thomas
   Doesn't emphasize the Monad directly but teaches inner awakening central to many Gnostic traditions.
4. The Trimorphic Protennoia
   A beautiful description of divine emanation from the First Thought.
5. On the Origin of the World
   Explains the emergence of Sophia, Yaldabaoth, and the material cosmos.
